Intro to E-Learning!

This week I started the fourth course in the Educational Technology Masters Degree Program at Louisiana State University. This program has been a great addition to my life as I work towards developing an early literacy preschool curriculum named "The Jolivet Maze: a cheerful path." This semester I am enrolled in Design & Development of Multimedia Instructional Units ELRC 7505 with Dr. Monroe. I am excited to learn e-learning fundamentals and to create tangible e-learning units to use with a preschool curriculum.

How I Will Incorporate Future Artifacts From ELRC 7505 into The Jolivet Maze:

While taking courses at LSU we encouraged to develop artifacts/scenarios based on current projects from our real lives. This has been a great benefit to me as I often use the preschool curriculum and I am simultaneously building a business around as a Lafayette, Louisiana entrepreneur. I am excited for the tangible products I will have upon completion of this course. As well as the knowledge and resources I will use to create more e-learning modules for The Jolivet Maze curriculum.

What You Can Expect In The Coming Weeks:

Over the next seven weeks you can look forward to weekly blog post displaying multimedia artifacts and educational products. I will include comments and analysis regarding how these products support an early literacy preschool curriculum.

The Modality Principle!

The Modality Principle Presentation! The narrated presentation I created this week was about The Modality Principle. This presentation is intended for Pre-school Instructors that create or design preschool e-learning modules. The presentation covers  the modality principle and some of the limitations it has depending on the target audience and their cognitive processing ability. I review the modality principle and the reasoning behind why we use it. I give examples of when we don't need to use the Modality Principle (limits). In the making of the presentation itself, I used the Modality Principles from Clark and Mayer's book. I narrated my presentation, I used on screen text as well as audio narration. I also used animations and graphics that were both decorative and informative. On slides where I placed informative graphics, I also used audio narration. I did this in an effort not to overload the cognitive ability of my intended audience.  According to Clark and Mayer,...

Mini Garden Activity - Worked Example

Pre-K III Mini Garden Activity - Worked Example Presentation To View:  Click the Link Above Click Duration - Bottom Left Corner Click Play A Worked Example     This week for my LSU course assignment, I created a worked example. Following Clark and Mayer's definition, "a worked example is a step-by-step demonstration of how to complete a task" (Clark, Mayer 2016). The Pre-K III Mini Garden Activity is an example of a worked example presentation I completed using many multimedia principles such as Personalization principle and Coherence principle. Its a step by step guide on how to plant a seed with a collaborative garden activity for preschool students. The presentation features demonstrations of how to clean and prepare a seed, find a location, and plant the seeds. As well as examples of ways to enhance student understanding. This presentation is accessible to anyone with the link and is intended for in-home preschool educators and homeschooling parents.    Desi...

The Coherence Principle - Analysis

Coherence Principle Analysis Paper! Coherence Principle            According to the book, Proven Guidelines for Consumers and Designers of Multimedia Learning, Coherence Principle simple states to "avoid any material that does not support the instructional goal" (Clark, Mayer, 2016). Take a look at the photo above? At first glance you may notice it is a bear. There is a tongue and ears, a nose and eyes. If you look at it long enough you will see the different shapes patterns and colors that are also there. This graphic is eye-catching but is not be the right choice when designing an informative e-learning unit about bears. The graphic is overly busy and distracting. The graphic also does not contribute any knowledge about the topic of bears. Therefore, this graphic would not support my instructional goals. Extraneous Text Graphics & Sound     According to the Coherence Principle, when designing e-learning multimedia products we mus...
